How to Pray Salatul Hajat: A Guide to Seeking Allah’s Help in Times of Need
As humans, we all face challenges and moments when we are in need of guidance, forgiveness, or a special favor from Allah. During such times, Salat al-Hajat, the prayer of need, is a beautiful and powerful way to seek divine intervention and mercy. It is a means to turn to Allah with sincerity, humility, and trust, knowing that He alone is the ultimate source of help.
In this post, we’ll walk you through the steps of how to perform Salat al-Hajat and provide tips for making heartfelt du'a (supplication) afterward.
When to Pray Salat al-Hajat
Salat al-Hajat can be performed at any permissible time. It’s recommended to avoid praying during times when prayer is discouraged, such as:
- Immediately after Fajr until the sun rises
- During the time when the sun is directly overhead (just before Dhuhr)
- After Asr until sunset
The best times to perform this prayer include the last third of the night, as it is a blessed time for supplication, or after any of the five daily prayers.
How to Perform Salat al-Hajat
Here’s a step-by-step guide to praying Salat al-Hajat:
1. Make a Sincere Intention (Niyyah)
Begin with a sincere intention in your heart that you are praying Salat al-Hajat to seek help or relief from Allah for a specific need.
2. Perform Wudu (Ablution)
Ensure that you are in a state of ritual purity by performing wudu.
3. Pray Two Rak'ahs (Units of Prayer)
-
First Rak'ah:
- Begin with Allahu Akbar (the opening takbir).
- Recite Surah Al-Fatihah (The Opening).
- Follow with any other surah, such as Surah Al-Ikhlas (Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad).
- Complete the rak'ah with ruku (bowing) and sujood (prostration) as in regular prayer.
-
Second Rak'ah:
- Repeat the same steps as in the first rak'ah:
- Recite Surah Al-Fatihah and another surah, then complete the rak'ah.
4. Supplicate to Allah (Make Du'a)
After completing the two rak'ahs, raise your hands and make a heartfelt du'a.
A recommended du’a for Salat al-Hajat is:
"La ilaha illallahul-Haleemul-Kareem, Subhanallahi Rabbil-‘Arshil-‘Adheem, Alhamdulillahi Rabbil-‘Aalameen, As’aluka mujibati rahmatika wa ‘aza’ima maghfiratika, wal-ghanimata min kulli birrin was-salamata min kulli ithm, la tada’ li dhanban illa ghafartahu wa la hamman illa farrajtahu wa la hajatan hiya laka ridan illa qadaitaha, ya arhamar-raahimeen."
Translation:
"There is no deity but Allah, the Most Forbearing, the Most Generous. Glory is to Allah, the Lord of the Mighty Throne. Praise is to Allah, Lord of the worlds. I ask You for the things that bring about Your mercy and Your forgiveness, the benefit of every good deed, and safety from all sin. Do not leave me with any sin except that You forgive it, no worry except that You relieve it, and no need that pleases You except that You fulfill it, O Most Merciful of those who show mercy!"
You may also use your own words to ask Allah for your need with sincerity and trust.
